A 31 December balance snapshot from OKX for your Swiss year-end records
Many Swiss residents want a clear record of what they held on the last day of the year. Here is how to capture OKX balances, prices and supporting exports on 31 December so the figures are easy to explain later.
OKX | Switzerland | CHF | fees, access and account safety
Reconstructing what you held on a particular date is surprisingly hard after the fact. Prices have moved, small balances in rarely opened accounts are forgotten, and transaction exports show movements rather than positions. If your records need a year-end view of holdings, the simplest approach is to capture it on the day. This guide does not cover what you must declare or how it is valued for any official purpose; that depends on your canton and your own situation. It covers how to collect the OKX side of the picture cleanly.
List every place inside OKX where assets can sit
Balances on OKX can be spread across the Funding account, the Trading account, Earn or savings products, open positions and any sub-accounts. Before the end of the year, open each one and write down which coins appear where. Sub-accounts are easy to forget because they do not always show on the main overview. Coins locked in a product still belong to you, so include them, noting that they were locked and until when.
Capture balances on the day
On 31 December, ideally at a fixed time you note down, take screenshots of each account's asset list showing coin and quantity. Many users also download a statement or asset report if one is offered for that date. Record the quantity of each coin rather than only the total value shown by the app, since the app's valuation depends on the price at the exact moment you looked and the display currency selected.
Record the prices you will use
Decide in advance which price source and time you will use to value each coin, and stick to it every year. For coins traded against CHF or a major stablecoin, note the closing or reference price from the source you chose, along with the time zone. Keep this as a separate small table. If your records later need a specific official rate list, you can replace the figures, but the quantities you captured on the day remain the solid foundation.
Store it with the year's exports
Put the screenshots, any statement, the price table and the full-year transaction exports in one folder named by year. Add a short note explaining which accounts you checked and at what time. Back the folder up to a second location. In January, compare the snapshot quantities with the exports to confirm the year's movements lead to the same end balance; a mismatch now is far easier to resolve than one discovered months later.
