Pairing a hardware security key or phone passkey with your OKX login
Switzerland has a large community of careful savers who already use hardware wallets and password managers. For them, the natural question about OKX is which passkey style fits best: one stored on the phone, one synced through a password manager, or a physical security key where the browser and platform allow it. Each has strengths. This guide compares them, walks through enrolment from the OKX Security page and explains how to avoid locking yourself out.
Three places a passkey can live
A phone passkey lives in the device's secure enclave and is unlocked by face or fingerprint. A password-manager passkey syncs across your devices, which is convenient but ties security to that manager's master password. A hardware security key keeps the credential on a small USB or NFC device that never shares it. Check the OKX help centre for which of these are currently supported on app and web, because support can differ between platforms.
Enrolment from the Security page
Sign in to OKX, open the profile menu and choose Security, then the passkey option. Select add, and your operating system or browser asks where to create the passkey. Choose the phone, the password manager or, if offered, a security key, which you then touch or tap when prompted. Give each entry a recognisable name, such as office laptop or blue key, so you know which to remove later.
Testing before you rely on it
Log out and sign in again using the new passkey on each device. If you enrolled a hardware key, test it on both a laptop browser and, via NFC or adapter, on your phone if supported. Note any screen where OKX still asks for an authenticator code, such as withdrawals or security edits; the passkey does not necessarily replace those confirmations.
Backups and retirement
Never depend on a single credential. Enrol at least two passkeys, for example a phone and a hardware key stored at home, and keep the authenticator app active as a fallback until you are confident. When replacing a device, add the new passkey first and remove the old entry afterwards. Record which credentials exist in an offline note kept with your other important documents.
Risk boundary: OKX Switzerland Guide
Digital assets are volatile and derivatives can amplify losses. This website has no login, wallet connection, deposit form or customer-support chat. A referral link only records attribution; it does not guarantee access, pricing, rewards, approval or investment results. Availability can differ by residence, legal entity and product, so no regional access is assumed from language or branding alone.
Scenario checkpoint
- Check the OKX help centre for which passkey types are currently supported on app and web.
- Name every passkey entry clearly in Security so the right one can be removed later.
- Sign out and test each passkey on every device before relying on it for daily logins.
- Keep at least two passkeys plus the authenticator app active to avoid a lockout.
